Curtain Design by Revelloyd Interior Design

This curtain was designed for a client in a new build apartment block in Arsenal. The property was built with a large set of doors that opened up outwards onto a patio area. However as great as the light could be it could also cause problems - it would heat up the room considerably in the summer and would also make watching TV impossible as the glare was very strong for most of the day.

With designing this curtain there were a lot of problems posed, the first was there was almost no stack back on the left hand side of the door, meaning that there could not be a pair of curtains as the left curtain would impede on the door and window.

This left us with designing a single curtain for the room that would block out the light but not take up an excessive amount of room, especially since the room on the right hand side was also limited by a radiator.

We also had a problem regarding the width of the window, it would require a pole that was longer than could be safely shipped so had to be cut down.It would also require a large amount of support due to the weight of the pole and the weight of the curtain; this would require 4 brackets to be used. The first bracket was to go directly into the left hand side wall to allow the curtain to fully pull across. The second and third would be equally placed along the pole, and the end fixing bracket would be placed near the finial. Using so many brackets meant that we had to use C-shaped rings for the curtain to allow the curtain to pass the brackets - we also had to use the appropriate brackets that would allow this.

To overcome these problems we designed a curtain that would stack back closely with a wave heading and as mentioned before would pass the brackets using C-shaped rings. The curtain was designed in a red crushed cotton based fabric that had a wonderful deep colour but also a slight sheen. The also elected to have a dark chocolate brown heading. This would bring together other items in the room and break up what was otherwise a very large piece of red fabric that otherwise might be very dominating.

The overall result is a beautiful curtain that blocks out the light completely whilst adding wonderful colour to the room without overpowering it!

Client Feedback
"From the first moments of describing my requirements with Kia - I instinctively knew that my project was going to be a success. She provided thoughtful guidance and patience, helping me through the bewildering mass of their amazing fabrics and colours. So instead of it being a difficult project (which is what I had anticipated), with Kia's design flair it turned out not only to be easy but fun too. The end result is something that is functional, aesthetically pleasing, and with a touch of class"
