Living Room in a Georgian Islington House

This beautiful Georgian property required a practical, yet stylish, living room that would serve as fine place to entertain as well as an area that would satisfy the needs of two teenage girls with a large DVD collection! The two large sofas in the room are chunky and comfortable and their inclusion highlights the size of the room. The colour scheme is quite natural with 'red' acting as an accent colour. The red is a bold, un-bashful statement that highlights that this is a personal room - not just a cold textbook design. In a post-modernistic contrast I coupled this modern red theme with a traditional hemp rug (which I love to use due to their durability). I wanted to make sure there was ample places for any guests to place their drinks so I inserted a generous sized coffee table as well as some side tables. I felt that the walnut in the room contrasted well with the accent colour and gave the room a rich autumnal feel.

The wallpaper here is subtle (it is vital not to have too many 'statement' items in a room) and extremely tasteful and stylistically durable. I decided that the wall units should be custom made and I was delighted with the result that ensued: I'm sure you will agree that the wall units fit the room precisely and bare in mind that such wall units can be individually made to suit any need! The TV unit is also custom made and personally designed by me and it was quite a challenge seeing as it had to be shallow enough to allow the beautiful Georgian shutters to close (due to a previous unit they had not closed in 15 years!).

This was a really fun job because I was asked to create a contemporary family living room that served multiple purposes: as a result I was forced to use all my resources in order to create a room that served all the necessary functions but that was full of style, attitude and unique pieces!

Client feedback:
"Having decorated and re-decorated the interior of the home that I share with my two teenage daughters, in the 20 years that I have lived here, one room has been persistently awkward to keep polished. Our shared sitting room had become a dumping ground for clutter, and although a fantastic room in itself, increasingly difficult to keep up to date.

My first impressions of Revelloyd’s interior designer Kia Richardson was her infectious enthusiasm. I am familiar with the shop itself, and, while we talked over different design ideas, was consistently impressed with her ability to infuse aspects of my own home with the elegant style closely associated with Revelloyd. Such was my confidence in Kia, I asked not to observe the progress of the room until its completion. Kia was sensitive to our Christmas deadline, and always on site with her team to oversee the process of the room. The results are testament to Kia’s outstanding ability as an interior designer, our sitting room is now a relaxing and enjoyable area for family and friends."
